This week for my 52 Projects I decided it was time to post about something different!
D and I have been trying to get out kayaking for a long time. He has 2 kayaks and used to go out more often with a mate of his until he sustained a long term injury to his shoulder.
Now that it is healing, we have wanted to get out kayaking together and prepare for going on a kayaking camping trip. He went out once a few weeks ago with his mate and his shoulder held up well.
I used to canoe when I was a teenager and have been keen to try it again. But one thing after another… and it hasn’t happened… until last Sunday!
Finally, the day had arrived and off we went.
I LOVED it! I got in like I had never left and away I went. I had no trouble keeping up with D. My paddling was just as strong. His stamina was a lot better though! But that will come back with time.
Now, I want to go out every weekend! I’m addicted to the whole experience. The tranquillity, the nature, the drifting along the river, the sound of the paddles moving in and out and through the water, the exercise!
We are going to buy two more kayaks and take a camping trip with another couple. I just need to build up a bit of stamina ( as does his mates partner!) and then we are going to head out to a spot about a couple of hours down the river.
I can’t wait for Sunday and then, hopefully not too far away, for the camping trip. Wooohoooo!!

That sounds lovely ... not the camping part but the kayaking part...(and then I'd want to sleep in a cushy cabin with a bathroom, microwave, and fireplace! ;->).
~i am jealous...i was sharing with my husband last night about your kayaking adventure...we are longing to get out there! lucky you two are and wishing you many more happy adventures...brightest blessings~
That sounds like a lot of fun. I would have to put that in my list of things to do!
LOL Rochelle! I get you about the cushy cabin, but I LOVE camping just as much!
Faerwillow - Hope you can get out there kayaking soon! thank you for your lovely wishes.
Erika - I would love to read about you doing as well!
Oh nice! Funny, we just noticed a kayak rental place nearby. My only experience is renting them for an hour when I travel places and always loving it for all the reasons you described. But that predates my bad beack, neck, shoulder, blah, blah. Still, now I want to at least try again!
I'm jumping up and down with excitement over here!! You are totally speaking my language with this project. I tried kayaking a few years ago after my divorce and I went out within weeks and bought one. I have a 13.5 foot kayak and I love being out on the water. I plan on getting out there a lot more this summer and hopefully we can find a kayak for Breen one of these days. You and D look so happy and healthy!
I tried kayaking at camp and it was fun.
Sounds like great adventure to share with the one you love.
Kablooey - I so hope you will be able to try it again! Such a wonderful thing to do.
Jane - LOL!! I thought of you on Sunday when we were heading out. I remember that kayaking is something you love to do as well. The two kayaks we are buying are about 13 feet as well. We have already chosen the ones we want. I can't wait! They should glide better than D's! I hope you and Breen can both get out on the water next summer.
ISW - I am so grateful that we can do this together. It's a wonderful experience!
Yea for kayaking and yea for an other than art project (NTTAWWT)
i kayaked for the first time this past summer and afterwards could not understand why i had waited so long to try it!
I love to watch other people kayaking but boats, water, and me were not made for each other lol,(think palpitations, white knuckles, and spaghetti legs.)I would much rather be in the water than on it :)
Go You!!! I am in awe.
How fun. It makes me want to go out. It has been a long time since I kayaked in the bay.
Hi Nicci! D wants to get me out in the waves soon. Scary!
Dreamer - I love being in it too, obviously! In fact, I rolled out of the kayak to get in the river and had the kayak bonk me on the head! Lesson learnt! Watching is good too!
Lis - yea, for this discovery for both of us!!
Mr B. - Nothing wrong with that at all! But it is nice to think outside the box. I have some other ideas simmering that aren't art, but also quite a few that are!
I like seeing the picture of you and D. You fit well!
Enjoy the kayaking. I wish I knew how...maybe in the future.
