You could read so much into that title couldn’t you??!! :)
But what I am talking about is exposure photography!
D and I had a wonderful weekend last weekend thoroughly enjoying a special getaway at the Grand Hotel courtesy of a birthday present from my parents. It was our anniversary and we just didn’t want to leave the place!
And part of that weekend was my project of learning more about exposure photography – in this case, night time exposures.
D is really good with that. And I am really good with the balance of the scene. So together we really enjoyed playing around with photographing the beach, the waves and the jetty. Which was a good thing, because our weekend away ended up being cold, windy and rainy. Not good for being outside soaking in the scenery but REALLY good for some interesting photos of the ocean from our balcony.
I learnt a bit more about the settings on our camera. I only hope it will stay in my head. For some reason, I keep learning about it and it keeps flying out of my head again. Surely it will stick some time soon.
Anyway, here are a couple of my fav shots plus a prequel setting the scene.
PS. I have a few arty projects in the making. I’m hoping to finish one of them for this weekends project. Fingers crossed!
This shot is setting this scene and was taken before while it was still daylight. What a dreary day, but we were excited by the prospects of what it would give us in photos!
Darkness has descended. I learnt that the longer the exposure, the more it smooths out the waves. I like this one because it also shows the ocean moving off into the distance…
.. But this is my favourite shot of all, with the jetty taking centre stage and the reflection of the lights in the water taking up the bottom half of the photo.
This one isn’t as long an exposure, so you can see some wave action in it. I love it for the man and his bike at the end of the jetty. As well as for the interesting textures on the right hand side of the jetty at the end.
And you can guess what this attachment is used for by all teenagers alike – yes, thats right – jetty jumping. Totally illegal in our state because of the injuries and deaths that have happened in the past, but still performed regularly.
