52 Projects Wk 26, 23 - Staining, the wardrobe

This weeks project and catch up project are:

1. Organising a very untidy and cluttered wardrobe!

2. Building and staining a storage crate

Wardrobe

No photos for this one, so just use your wonderful imaginations.

A simple wardrobe - just one long hanging space and a shelf at the top.

Bring in a nice, cheap, DIY kit.  Suddenly there are separate hanging racks and shelves.

The DIY kit needed a lot of adjustment as it was for a larger width than my tiny little walkthrough.   So, D brought out his tools, did measuring, cutting and hammering and between us we set up a nice little design.

Bring in matching storage boxes and a shoe rack.

Do some major organising and clutter clearing - oh the challenge of throwing things out!

Things are organised, neatly layed out, easy to find.  WOW!  It is wonderful!!!

Storage Crate

This project is a combined effort between D and myself.

Firstly, D built the crate out of wood from Bunnings.  Aaahhh, buuunnninnngsss!  Yes, we like shopping there!

Then, I learnt with a bit of trial and error about how to stain it.  This 52 Projects is a great learning curve!   I love it!

After a light sanding all over I gave the stain tin a good mix.

The man at Bunnings told me to stain with a paint brush.  That pretty much sucked!  Then D said he always stains using a rag.  That worked great!  It was much quicker, more even and just easier!

Unfortunately, the stain colour I chose doesn't match the table it is going under (more later!), so I am going to do a second coat of stain before I apply the lacquer.  I would have had this finished by now, but I put my back out and, wallah, restriction abound!  Nevermind, it will come good and I will finish it soon.

The purpose of the crate is to tidy up the mess that always builds up under D's coffee table.  Hard drives, bits of paper, computer chords, magazines etc etc.  Take a look!  It's not too bad in this photo but you can imagine the build up that could occur!!

But with the almost matching crate, with matching slats, things are much neater!  You can see the stain is too light at the moment, but I am hoping another coat and the lacquer will darken it a little.  If not, well, we will just make another one to match!!

PS.  D built the coffee table as well!  A project from many years ago.

Am very impressed with everything except the back strain. With that, I just empathize. At this very moment. And by the way, that under desk mess? Is what I aspire to have.

Love your box, and your wardrobe looks amazing (well, I used my imagination especially because I want a wardrobe! I don't have one right now)... :)

This looks amazing, Annie. I love it!! The thing I love the most is that you and D are doing some of these projects together. I love when Breen and I work on something together. We both learn and become closer at the same time.
