Carport/Workspace Part 2
From here on, the carport is now known as the workspace! Much sooner than planned, D built his workbench and for last weekends project it was installed and he began laying it out with his tools etc. He had a lot of fun buying what he needed and finding places for everything. We also bought a lockable cabinet in which to keep electric tools and all the poisons etc.
The difference to the place is enormous. Together, we tidied and organised and it almost feels like we built a new room onto the house. Things that were scattered around the house have been brought together in this new workspace - screws, tools, odd jobs - all in the place ready to be used and fixed. Already, there have been many little jobs done that had been waiting to be finished. It is all so much easier.
Now, I have a bit more space in the house and it needs a bit of reorganising. I'm looking forward to doing that some stage soon.
I can't show you photos yet, because well, there is this weeks project that has kind of taken over the space! But by next week, this weeks project will be finalised, next weeks project on the workspace (part 3) will be done and it should be ready for viewing.
The Shed
In organising the Workspace, you may remember we began a pile of hard rubbish to be collected by the council. This brought us to The Shed Project. Here goes...!
Our shed has, for the last two years since D moved in, been chockablock full of "Stuff". After combining two houses of stuff, the shed became very full with the leftovers. Not to mention all the things that D had in his shed, combined with what was already in my shed. Oh dear.
A lot of the stuff I knew was hard rubbish, so the job needed to be done before the council pick up. Also, there was more odds and ends of things to be brought down to the workspace as well as stuff simply to go in the trash. We also now have a pile of computers, tvs, furniture, clothes, books, kitchen stuff etc to take to Goodwill (which have filled up the Workspace!). And a little pile for ebay. (a new project for us to try out!)
I thought it would just take us the morning. At 4.00 we finished up!
I forgot to take the 'before photo' before we started, when you could only take one step into the shed before you were completely blocked by 'stuff'. But here is the shed a third of the way into the job. And just to give you an idea of the depth of the 'chaos', there is also a photo outside of the shed with half of the stuff in its various to do piles.
The After Shot
Taken with the 18mm lense, so I could get it all into the one photo. I can't believe how much space we have now. Things are just placed against the sides, with the whole middle free. There are not rows and rows and nooks and crannys to climb into. There are not things piled up three or four deep! More than one person can actually get in there!!! :):):)
The two white boxes are completely empty and I may use them for my projects in the workspace, there is very little in the cupboards, and aside from a couple of boxes to sort through for ebay, there is nothing superfluous. All are things that we use regularly according to the seasons and the occasions or will be using soon.
It is so good for the soul to have gotten rid of so many things. I feel so much lighter. When the Goodwill trip is done, the council have picked up the hard rubbish, and the pile of regular trash gets picked up in the weekly pick up, our house and our souls are going to feel so much more lighter and freer and cleansed! I can't wait!
Next job - tackle the weeds. Actually we must have the outdoors bug, because on the agenda is to tidy up and plant in the backyard. To make it appealing and pretty and a pleasure to be in! So stay tuned for that up and coming project!

It looks wonderful. I agree that it is good for the soul to organize and de-clutter....and to give away items I no longer use but I know someone else can use. I'm reading The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin and that's one of the first things she talks about.
Enjoy!
You two are accomplishing so much this summer --- well -- winter there I guess ... coming into Spring. You will have so much fun doing up your back yard. Sitting in a wonderful outdoor space which you have created yourselves is also soul food. Rock On Annie!
WOW!! You and D have taken on some great projects in the past few weekends. It's amazing how much lighter and spacious a space feels when you de-clutter! AWESOME job!!!
